Oregano Oil for Nail Fungus

Nail fungus, also known as Onychomycosis is a generally known disease of the fingernail or toenail. There are many factors that can trigger this condition in moist environments. These fungi survive even without sunlight. If you have weak immune system, poor hygiene, irregular pH levels and diabetes, you are most likely to have this fungal infection.

Elderly men and women are more prone to having nail fungus. If your nails are thickened, crumbly, brittle, ragged, dull, distorted and yellowish in color, then they are infected with fungi. There are different uncostly home remedies such as the use of oregano oil for nail fungus that have been proven to be more effective than the usual medical treatments to eliminate the pain and discomfort when wearing shoes.

What makes oregano oil an incredible remedy to get rid of nail fungus is its antibacterial, analgesic, antiseptic and antifungal properties. Taking it internally can actually kill the virus inside the body.  There is not a problem if you are not a big fan of its taste. You can just directly apply it on the affected nail and its surrounding area. Combining oregano oil with different kinds of essential oils can help quicken the relief of nail fungus.

  1. Oregano Oil with Tea Tree Oil. Tea tree oil or Melaleuca is very economical compared to other essential oils. This should only be used as topical medicine and not to be taken orally. Like oregano oil, it also cures skin infections naturally. Just combine 2-3 drops tea tree oil to 3 drops oregano oil and apply it to the affected nail. Leave it there for not less than 30 minutes. Gently rinse with clean water and let it dry completely. For best results, repeat the application 4 times a day.
  2. Oregano Oil with Olive Oil. Olive oil is known to help avoid cracking and dryness of the affected nail. Although it will not necessarily cure the fungus, mixing it with oregano oil will absolutely restore the health and beauty of your fingernails and toenails. Just add 3 drops diluted oregano oil into a teaspoon of olive oil and let it stay on the infected part of the nail for 30 minutes. The process must be done twice a day.
  3. Oregano Oil with Coconut Oil. Coconut oil has Lauric acid that contains antibacterial and antifungal properties. It can moisturize the skin, reduce the thickness of the nails and prohibit the fungi from spreading. After making sure that your infected nail is thoroughly cleaned and trimmed, just put a little amount of combined coconut oil and oregano oil. Apply two times a day. Lessen the amount of oregano oil if you feel a burning sensation.

Keep in mind that oregano oil must be applied only in small amounts. You should also make sure that it is properly diluted to avoid skin redness and soreness. Not all people can apply it on their skin, so ensure that you are not allergic to it before using it as your essential home remedy.
